M.E.S initiatives at S.J.I.T.I KURLA · The main objective of MES is to provide vocational training to school leavers, existing workers, ITI graduates, etc. to improve their employability by optimally utilizing the infrastructure available in Govt., Private institutions and the Industry. Existing skills of the persons can also be tested and certified under this scheme. · To build capacity in the area of development of competency standards, course curricula, learning material and assessment standards in the country.
MES benefit different target groups like 1. All those seeking certification of their skill Acquired informally.2. All those workers and ITI graduates seeking skill up- gradation.3. All those who have dropped out of school and are unemployed.4. All those who have earlier worked as child labourers. This was the first time SJITI took the initiative to train the candidates and conduct the exams and SJITI was the only institute in the whole of Maharashtra conduct this exam, despite 12 ITI’s being selected from all over the state by the Government of Maharashtra(SJITI was among the 3 from Mumbai that were selected) SJITI not only took the initiative, but successfully conducted the exams within a day.(The training was completed a day prior to the exam). One Hundred and sixteen students applied and appeared in the various sectors of the M.E.S exams. Which were conducted in the institute premises. The various sectors were 1.Automobiles a) basic automobile servicing 4 wheeler (56 candidates) 2) two wheeler repair and overhauling of two wheelers (motorcycle)(6 candidates) 3. Electrical house wiring (29 candidates) 4. Information and communication technology computer fundamentals, Ms-office and Internet( 2 candidates) 5. Refrigeration and Air condition basic Refrigeration and air-conditioning(12 candidates) 6. Production and Manufacturing Turning (1 candidate) 7. Fabrication Arc welding (6 candidates). A total of 112 students passed these exams an aggregate of 97%. The exams assessment was carried out by a panel of 5 officials from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with City and Guilds Pune. Each official took care of the different sectors. A day long programme which began at 10.00am ended as late as 8.00 pm, with the officials making sure they completed all result procedures before calling it a day. This tiring but successful process of conducting this M.E.S exams would not have been possible without the committed and sustained efforts of the entire Staff and Management of SJITI. |
